is the patient's deep coma serious? under what circumstances can a deep coma occur? reason:
1. it may be that the cerebral cortex is diffusely damaged, causing the consciousness content of the cerebral cortex to disappear, resulting in coma.
2. the ascending activation system of the midbrain or pons may be damaged, causing the person's awakening state to be unable to be maintained, resulting in deep coma.
the duration of deep coma is related to the patient's age, underlying disease, extent and location of injury, as well as the timing and response to treatment. patients with relatively mild conditions generally regain consciousness within 2-4 weeks.
if the coma lasts for more than one month, it is called a persistent vegetative state, and recovery is still possible. if the coma lasts for more than three months, it is called a permanent vegetative state, with little chance of waking up. the life span is usually 2-5 years.
