causes of coma caused by diffuse axonal damage:
diffuse axonal injury is a neuroaxonal injury caused by shear stress when the head is subjected to accelerated rotational external force. it often occurs in the corpus callosum, cerebral peduncle, middle part of the brainstem, etc., and is mostly small. contusion, hemorrhage and edema are characterized by multiple but no space-occupying lesions. under the microscope, nerve axonal rupture and axoplasmic overflow were seen. patients often become comatose, and the coma lasts for a long time. the condition is severe, and the mortality rate can reach 50%.
